TORONTO ARGONAUTS & ROTARY CLUB OF TORONTO TEAM UP TO AWARD COMMUNITY CHAMPION SCHOLARSHIP

George Harvey Collegiate’s Souleik Kheyre to be officially awarded

four-year scholarship on June 1

Toronto – Two historic organizations with a demonstrated commitment to community involvement have joined forces to change one student’s life forever!

Media are invited to attend a special luncheon scheduled for this Friday, June 1, headlined by key note speaker, and Argonauts Vice-Chair, Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, where the Rotary Club of Toronto and the Toronto Argonauts Football Club will officially reward Souleik Kheyre, from George Harvey C.I. of the Toronto District School Board, a four-year post-secondary academic scholarship.

Argonauts’ Executive Chairman & CEO, Chris Rudge commented, “Our commitment to the Toronto community and its youth are cornerstones of the Argonauts franchise. We are delighted to have partnered with our friends at the Rotary Club of Toronto to offer one local student this kind of life-changing opportunity. We’re thrilled that Souleik, who so clearly demonstrated her commitment to her community, her school and her academics, will now have the financial means to pursue her post-secondary aspirations.”

Souleik, a grade 12 student, earned this one-of-kind scholarship by submitting an application outlining her academic achievements, contributions to her community and George Harvey C.I., and displaying financial need. She will be able to use her scholarship to attend any college or university, and her tuition will be fully paid for all four years that she attends. Souleik will also be invited to the Argonauts’ July 18 home game where her successes will be acknowledged in front of thousands of Argos fans during an on-field presentation.

William Andras, Scholarship Coordinator, Rotary Club of Toronto enthused, “Souleik truly represents our motto: Service Above Self. She has not only excelled as a student athlete, she has also maintained high academic standing, supported her family and helped to build her community. This scholarship allows us the privilege of helping a future leader make our community stronger and the luncheon allows us to celebrate Souleik's accomplishments and provide hope to others to follow their dreams regardless of their circumstances.”

Also in attendance at the luncheon will be some of the Argonauts’ players who are most active in the community, including LB Tristan Black and WR Mike Bradwell (both from Toronto), as well as DS Jordan Younger and OG Joe Eppele.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Rotary Club of Toronto and Toronto Argonauts Community Champion Scholarship was created to provide funding for the tuition of one student from the Toronto District School Board or Toronto Catholic District School Board to complete their post-secondary career.  This year’s recipient was chosen by a selection committee consisting of both Rotarians and Toronto Argonauts staff.  Candidates were selected based on financial need, character, leadership ability, breadth and depth of community service and scholastic achievement.
